The Revised Basic Catechism Course was written for the training of teachers of religion, providing them with the necessary means of sharing the Faith. Teachers preparing students; parents providing the spiritual needs of their children; people helping friends and family to develop and expand their knowledge of the Faith- anyone, everyone who wants to grow in their knowledge of the Faith an strengthen their ability to share it with others will benefit from the Catechism Courses.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Modern Catholic Dictionary, both by Father Hardon, are reference sources for the Revised Basic Course and are a gold mine of information and spiritual growth. Father suggests other sources for further study also.
Beginning with Salvation History, Father makes us acquainted with the oldest religions known (those of the Near East among the Egyptian, Assyrians and Babylonians), then directs our attention to Abram/Abraham, used by God to become “founder of the Hebrew religion and the father of all believers in the one true God.” From these Father relates the roles of other Old Testament figures following God’s will, to the promise of the Redeemer fulfilled in the coming of Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Focusing then on the Apostles Creed, Father explains the main teachings of the one true faith. This is followed by lessons on the Commandments and the Sacraments, and concludes with a study of prayer, particularly the Our Father. Conscientiously and prayerfully absorbing the information, studying the reference sources and developing a strong spiritual life will bring an abundance of blessings to each one who experiences the Course.
